The Beier Group (Pty) Ltd grew from small beginnings when in 1929, O.T.H. Beier, a young pioneer left Germany against the wishes of his family and established himself in Durban as a wool merchant in Durban, South Africa.
In 1931 O.T.H. Beier received an offer from Storm and Company to manage their newly erected scouring plant. He accepted the challenge and within a short time, exports to Europe commenced. Two years later he concluded an agreement to take over the scouring plant from Storms.
As the economy of the country steadily improved, O.T.H Beier saw the vast potential for industrial development in South Africa and embarked upon a policy for diversification and expansion which has continued to the present day.
In 1962 – Hans Beier – OTH’s eldest son, entered the business and the next era of growth was ushered in. Hans expanded the business from its origins in wool and consolidated the diversification into a major industrial textile group over the next 30 years.
Enter the third generation. In 1994, after completing his studies and working abroad for three-and-a-half years, Wolfgang, Hans’ eldest son joined the business determined to prove the exception to the old adage that “family businesses inevitably fail in the third generation”. Building on the proud legacy of his grandfather and father before him, he embarked on a path which further expanded operations and transformed the business into the vibrant, empowered, local manufacturing powerhouse that it is today.
Together with its leaders and shareholders the Beier Group (Pty) Ltd embraces the diversity that is South Africa today, recognising that the only growth which matters, is inclusive growth and that the great legacy of past generations is only proven in the success of future generations.
The company operates from the South African based head office of Beier Industries (Pty) Ltd in Pinetown, 15 km from the east coast city of Durban, where Engineered Industrial Textile products are produced for a wide variety of industries.
