Transformation in the property sector

Beier Group was proud to co-sponsor a first-of-its-kind breakfast event on the theme of transformation in the property sector at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) recently.

Attended by more than 200 delegates, the breakfast was jointly hosted by three renowned property organisations: the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), Women’s Property Network (WPN) and the South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP).

Land reform, as well as the need for empowerment within the property sector, was a strong focus of discussion at the event. Among other topics, keynote speakers addressed the challenges facing the industry, the City’s existing and future development projects, and the need for collaboration among professionals within the build environment.

The issues that dominated the morning are of interest to Beier Group not only because of our own commitment to economic transformation, and our support for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s “Thuma Mina” vision, but also due to our connection with the property industry through our BBF member company.

As a specialist manufacturer and provider of head-to-toe personal protective equipment and workplace safety services, BBF “keeps people safe at work” – a priority shared by responsible employers all across the country, including those within the property sector. 

“You might well ask why the Beier Group is sponsoring an event such as this,” noted our director, Mike Maziya, in an address at the breakfast.

“The answer is quite simple. We tend to think of mines or power stations as being dangerous places to work, but all of you here, whether you are property owners or landlords or developers, have a responsibility to keep the people working around you safe – whether that is a construction worker on a new shopping mall or a shelf-packer in a tenant such as Pick ‘n Pay.”

By bringing together role-players from both the private and public sector, including property developers, estate agents, municipal officials and executives from state-owned enterprises, the event provided a valuable platform for discussions on driving sustainable transformation in the property industry.
